This peptide is a p53 tumor suppressor protein acetylated at lysine 382 upon Ras expression, an event that is essential for its biological function. Acetylation at lysine 382 specifically determines the PAb421 epitope. p53 acts as both a tumor-suppressor and transcription factor that, upon activation by DNA damage and other cellular stress signals, leads to the transcription of genes triggering cell-cycle arrest, apoptosis, and DNA repair
