| A basic description
|
Mating pheromone of mating type alpha cells of S. cerevisiae. This factor inhibits DNA synthesis, thereby preventing cell division of mating type a cells. This tridecapeptide, an alpha-factor pheromone of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, induces conjugation in yeast by binding to Ste2p. Its cognate GPCR activates a G protein signal pathway that highly conserves with mammalian signaling pathways.
